Biography of Ruman Islam
Rumana Islam is at present working as an Economist at the Policy Research Institute (PRI) of Bangladesh. She has recently completed her MSc in Economics in October 2010 from the University College London, United Kingdom. Prior to this she graduated with a distinction in B.A. (HONS) Applied Economics from Queen’s University, Canada. Rumana is engaged as a trade and regional cooperation economist at PRI. She has worked on the proposal for transit facilities between India and Bangladesh, the trade impact of allowing transit, and the overall regional impact of such an agreement. Currently she is working on a World Bank project which involves the classification of Bangladesh’s Non-Tariff barriers and measures as per UNCTAD’s nomenclature. Prior to PRI, Rumana has also worked for the International Monetary Fund in Kabul, Afghanistan, where she was placed at the Da Afghanistan Bank to learn about the constraints to central banking in a post conflict environment.In addition to this she also trained the central bank staff in introductory courses in Economics. She has also completed internships programs at the Centre for Policy Dialogue, Hong Kong Shanghai Banking Corporation, Grameen Trust, and Association for Social Advancement in Dhaka.
