Dr. Zaidi Sattar, Chairman, Policy Research Institute of Bangladesh (PRI), delivered the ๐ค๐๐ฒ๐ง๐จ๐ญ๐ ๐๐๐๐ซ๐๐ฌ๐ฌ at the Inaugural Ceremony of the ๐๐๐ญ๐ก ๐๐ง๐ง๐ฎ๐๐ฅ ๐๐๐ง๐ค๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐จ๐ง๐๐๐ซ๐๐ง๐๐ (๐๐๐) ๐๐๐๐, organised by the Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM) on 28โ29 October 2026.
In his keynote speech, titled Dr. Sattar emphasised that Bangladesh cannot restore growth with a weakened banking system or control inflation through high interest rates alone.
He called for coordinated policy action to strengthen bank balance sheets, restore productive credit, ensure fiscal discipline and allow greater exchange-rate flexibility. He also highlighted the concept of โcompensated depreciationโโaligning exchange-rate adjustments with tariff reductionsโto help contain inflationary pressures, strengthen export competitiveness and reduce anti-export bias.
He concluded that sound banking, coherent macroeconomic policies and competitive exports must advance together to revive investment and achieve sustained economic growth.
