With profound sorrow, the Policy Research Institute of Bangladesh (PRI) mourns the passing of Dr. Sarwar Jahan, Director of PRI, who passed away on Monday, 16 February 2026.
إِنَّا لِلَّٰهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ
(Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un)
Dr. Jahan was a distinguished academic, an accomplished researcher, and a deeply valued colleague. Before joining PRI, he served with great distinction as a Professor of Urban and Regional Planning at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). During his tenure, he held several senior leadership roles, including Head of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Planning, and Director of the Center for Regional Development Studies. His contributions to urban and regional planning, along with his intellectual leadership at PRI, will be remembered with deep respect.
Beyond his professional achievements, Dr. Jahan’s greatest legacy was his character. He was a man of deep faith, profound empathy, and boundless generosity. To those privileged to know him, he was one of the most ethical, compassionate, and gracious souls we have encountered.
PRI has lost a valued colleague and a remarkable human being. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and students. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
